Mallard (103) (Anas platyrhynchos) User: Brian Morin  (See all photos - 1034) (Comments - 2345)
Canada (Ontario) Cornwall - Yes, you read that right. This is a female bird with male characteristics, notably part of the head, breast and tail. Its wonky genes have produced an interesting new look. Apparently this bird has been seen in recent winters here.

Germany A Mallard resting on the ice in a very cold winter day in Northern Germany. Ducks mate very early in the spring and that's why they put on their breeding plumage in the winter already. Come the summer, males will look as drab as females!

Canada (Ontario) Ottawa - This female makes a perfect landing on an icy pond. The bird was so close that I almost didn't get it all in the picture. This image is uncropped.

Canada (Ontario) Ottawa - It almost looks like these ducks were sandwiched together in Photoshop but they were flying inches apart for a few seconds.
