Blue Jay (50) (Cyanocitta cristata) User: Sue  (See all photos - 3032) (Comments - 2464)
Canada (Ontario) I kept watching this Blue Jay jumping around in the leaves. To my surprise,he came up with this snake. It took quite awhile for him to subdue it and much longer for him to finish it off!

Northern Mockingbird (20) (Mimus polyglottos) User: Brian  (See all photos - 912) (Comments - 1859)
Canada (Ontario) Napanee - the repertoire of this bird was incredible. It did virtually perfect songs of Tufted Titmouse, Blue Jay (two different calls), Eastern Phoebe and the call of a Kingfisher in addition to its own call notes. There were others too but these were the best. Practise makes perfect they say. If you closed your eyes you could not distinguish the calls as not being the real thing. We found this bird while looking for a Tufted Titmouse that was calling. That was one big titmouse :)

Unidentified (34) (Unknown) User: jimmyhu  (See all photos - 70) (Comments - 3)
Canada (Ontario) This bird looks like a blue jay but without its major marks: no crest, no white strips/spots. It is a little smaller than a blue jay but bigger than 6 inches of the most song bird size. Its thick and dark beak is a jay or crow like. I found it under the bushes. I clearly saw the blue as the major tone for this bird (thus, ruled out the common crackle). Only possible candidate is the gray jay but feather did not match.

Canada (Ontario) Ingleside - with winter upon us and fewer subjects around our attention often turns to more common species.

Canada (Québec) They do love their nuts! The entertaining thing with these birds, if you leave food for them they call out to all their friends so we have quite a group over a short period of time. We love them!
