Canada (Ontario) Kingston - Wolfe Island - We don't have a lot of Gyr photos so I thought I'd post another view.

Canada (Ontario) Kingston - Wolfe Island; I waited a long time for this species. It does not show clearly but the cere on the bill is yellowish, rather than pale blue seen on young birds. However, it isn't very extensive so others are thinking this bird is a sub-adult but not a young bird.

Canada (British Columbia) Brunswick Point, Delta BC I would have loved to get a sharper image, but the bird was well concealed on an overcast day.

Snowy Owl (202) (Nyctea scandiaca) User: Chris  (See all photos - 1435) (Comments - 4292)
Canada (Québec) In a nature scene I've not witnessed, this Snowy Owl suddenly went into a defensive posture. At the same time, one of the observers standing next to me yelled out "Gyrfalcon!". One had been reported in the Mirabel area harassing Snowy Owls last week. It turned out to be a Peregrine Falcon in the end, but an interesting encounter nonetheless.

Canada (British Columbia) Hastings Racetrack, Vancouver BC Another rare bird alert and another lifer. At one point it was harassed and chased by a Peregrine, but returned to its perch.

Canada captive / domesticated Gyrfalcon X Peregrine Hybrid seen at Dorval beside the runway 24 left. This bird has a tracking device and is used by the falconer as a means of scaring away ducks and geese from the runways. The bird can soar up to and above the "ceiling" which is the base of the clouds, however with only a hand wave it will return. It was fed a bird upon return. There are also 2 hawks the falconer uses.
