Canada (British Columbia) I only realized later that the flock was actually Red-breasted Mergansers. Taken in gusty winds near YVR Airport, BC.

United States (Illinois) Not very often you get to see Red-breasted Mergansers very close. But in Chicago harbour they were swimming around between the boats very close to shore! Probably there was plenty of little fish for them there!

Snowy Owl (208) (Nyctea scandiaca) User: Brian Morin  (See all photos - 1149) (Comments - 2810)
Canada (Ontario) Kingston - Sentinel. She was scouting the very little open water along the ferry route for a duck meal. She almost took out a Red-breasted Merganser. Boy can these birds pour on the speed when they want to. She flew as fast as the duck but it had too much of a head start for her to catch it. A passerby asked if that was a falcon. I said no, a Snowy.
