Northern Cardinal (65) (Cardinalis cardinalis) User: Songbirds  (See all photos - 16) (Comments - 4)
Canada (Québec) It's very cold here lately -26 celsius and we've been feeding the birds as the snow has hardened and it's getting difficult for them to feed. This cardinal has been a regular visitor for the past two days; he frightens easily but yesterday I suppose he did not see me and I was lucky for this closeup.

Pileated Woodpecker (101) (Dryocopus pileatus) User: Songbirds  (See all photos - 16) (Comments - 4)
Canada (Québec) This gorgeous bird stunned us the first time we saw him. Must live in the neighbourhood and he is huge! This photo was taken at least 50-60 feet away zooming in. He (we are guessing it's a he but can be wrong) is very wary of humans but loves our neighbours trees so we see him often :)

Northern Cardinal (65) (Cardinalis cardinalis) User: Songbirds  (See all photos - 16) (Comments - 4)
Canada (Québec) I never saw a Cardinal love a pool as much as this one does. When the liner is on the pool he takes a bath happily singing away. Hangs around with a female all year long. See him fly by at least 5-6 times per day in the yard :)

Canada (Québec) They do love their nuts! The entertaining thing with these birds, if you leave food for them they call out to all their friends so we have quite a group over a short period of time. We love them!

Sharp-shinned Hawk (29) (Accipiter striatus) User: Songbirds  (See all photos - 16) (Comments - 4)
Canada (Québec) This sharp-shinned hawk unfortunately hit our back window while chasing after songbirds at the feeders; we think he mistook a reflection in the window for a bird. He had knocked himself out and didn't come to after 5 minutes, so we looked up on the internet on how to take care of him and follow it to the letter, being careful not to leave human scents on him. Approx 1h45 minutes later he was more than okay to be set free outdoors again (we had brought him in the house to keep him warm in a lightly covered box until he woke up from his knockout). Saw him again yesterday chasing the birds, so glad he is ok.
