I don't know if you have tried to shoot this speciea in Canada but they are tough, especially trying for anything at a reasonable distance. Much easier down south in the winter. I saw a pair scoot into the edge of some cattails and decided to wait them out. I wasn't far away. Eventually they would move and I was prepared to stay for two hours. It took about 30 minutes which suited me just fine. I got the male in various spots, all pretty close and I really liked the ripples on this one. As long as I stayed still standing behind my tripod I was OK. I eventually had to move a few feet and they were both gone. I got what I wanted.
