Evening Grosbeak (Hesperiphona vespertina) User: Brian Morin  (See all photos - 1209)
Canada (Ontario) Ottawa - I spent a couple of hours on a cold winter morning trying to get shots of a flock near a feeder on a public trail. Numerous branches obscured the birds most of the time but patience delivered in the end.

Fabulous. The evening colours stand out against the gray backdrop.

What is happening this winter is some areas in the south are seeing a good number of Evening Grosbeaks. It is a first in about 45 years and a welcome sight.
