Canada (Ontario) Whitby - Southern Ontario has a very small population along the edge of the lower Great Lakes. One bird was at Whitby and I stumbled upon it today.

Thanks. This was a combination of strategy and luck. I had half a peanutbutter sandwich that I broke into small portions and tossed into the air to see if it would respond. The 50 Ring-billed Gulls there took over so it flew from the ground to the top of a short tree. The wind was very strong and the bird had a hard time balancing so out came the wings. Needless to say I went for it. Being a "fish' Crow these birds tend to be found along bodies of water but they won't turn up their beaks at a handout.

Their call is a giveaway, like a juvenile Common Crow, but I found this one calling far more frequently than I expected.

You've had a very successful fall so far! Another amazing find.

And I wasn't even looking for it. I was after a White-faced Ibis a couple of km away but it departed the day before. This was my much appreciated consolation.
