Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus) User: Brian Morin  (See all photos - 1413)
Canada (Ontario) Kingston - Wolfe Island - a great opportunity to study this interesting species. This is the first time in my many trips to the island that I've had an opportunity to photograph a Short-eared Owl.

Very nice. They can be tough to find but this one seems perched out in the open. Great detail.

I waited around for an hour while the bird hunted. It regularly came to posts to perch in between passes over a field. The sun had just come out so the light was great late in the day.

I was so pleased to be able to work with this bird that I forgot about my other plans for the day. I have a few pictures of additional species but that will be for another day.

When you're on that kind of a role, you can easily forget about plans

This is on top of my new favourites list. I had a lot of fun with this bird, figuring out its next move and where to position myself for additional shots.
