Cornwall - These young males were putting on a show for the females. The "Jakes" will strut their stuff in the fall to an attentive audience but this is not for breeding purposes. Similar courting displays will take place next spring.

The yellowish colour on the lower neck/chest area signifies that the bird is breeding. Hopefully i'll be back to see the juvenile birds out with their mother.

shot during a pitstop off the M6 Motorway near Creswell, Staffordshire. This lone goose is a bit unusual as according to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, they are usually only seen up until March in the spring migration before heading to breeding grounds in Scandanavia. (several breeding flocks have been recorded in this part of England)

Sandbach Flashes, near Crewe, England.
In 1971, Mandarin Ducks were listed as a Category "C" bird in England by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, meaning there was sufficient population to be self-sufficient. Although not native, the population has grown to an estimated 7,000 ducks. While no breeding pairs were observed this spring in Sandbach, several ducks have taken up residence for the summer.

I saw 9 Great Egrets today at Laval. There were some at the end Boul. Levesque Est, and many more along Boul. Milles Isles as per the map. The individual photographed was lucky #13, so I'm assuming they have tagged at least that many in the Post Breeding Dispersal.

Reifel Bird Sanctuary, Delta BC
I had to carefully walk past these birds to get by them on the path. In breeding season they block off certain areas of the Sanctuary as they will attack.

These are wild cranes that migrate up and down the coast.
