The Albatross is my favorite species .I have seen the whole family except Amsterdam Albatross- I wonder if that will ever happen

We put fish oil out for these birds and were rewarded with both Black-footed and Short-tailed and lots of Streaked Shearwaters

Short-tailed Albatross breed on a small piece of rock called Torishima off the coast of Japan, so we were expecting to see the birds but nothing prepared us for this Albatross experience like no other

I had seen my first Short-tailed Albatross 5 weeks previously on the ferry trip down to Hachijo-jima
in the Izu islands, but the birds were a long way off and the photos poor- Boy was that going to change now!

Once back in colder waters the volume of birds picked up daily- This was our last Storm petrel on the trip- and a good one too. They would sit in flocks of 200 birds in front of the ship but always fly off as we approached making a good shot really difficult
