In a nature scene I've not witnessed, this Snowy Owl suddenly went into a defensive posture. At the same time, one of the observers standing next to me yelled out "Gyrfalcon!". One had been reported in the Mirabel area harassing Snowy Owls last week. It turned out to be a Peregrine Falcon in the end, but an interesting encounter nonetheless.

Snowy Owl with the lights of Montreal's runway 24L-06R in the background. The avifauna control needed to use flares to scare the bird away from the runway several times. Additional pics in the forum under sightings.

This bird has been active around the Dorval base. Some employees reported seeing it sitting on lamp posts in the parking lot! That's when I decided to bring the camera in. Today, she was between the two runways overlooking the airport field. It's a very big bird, leading me to believe it's a female. Seen at Montreal Airport in Dorval, Quebec.
