fallow field at Drummersdale House Farm, Scarisbrick, Lancashire. I was driving down a lane on what has been the family farm for over 200 years, when a whitish blur swept past the windscreen. I only had a short lens with me, so the resolution is poor on this surprising visitor.

shot during a pitstop off the M6 Motorway near Creswell, Staffordshire. This lone goose is a bit unusual as according to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, they are usually only seen up until March in the spring migration before heading to breeding grounds in Scandanavia. (several breeding flocks have been recorded in this part of England)

St Elizabeth Cemetery, Scarisbrick, Lancashire. Trudging around a cemetery on a wet and overcast day felt like something from The House of Usher..then I hear the rasping call of a Raven from the roof. As creepy as anything Poe wrote.

near Burzenin, Poland. Although not the main purpose of the visit, I had been hoping to get a photo of a European Stork. A drive along bone-rattling back roads brought teasing glimpses of storks in flight, but always in places not accessible. We gave up the chase and were heading off when a bend in the road presented this sight. The crop doesn't do justice to the nest which is at least 10 ft in diameter, set on a platform about 25 ft above the ground in a farmer's field (built by local residents).
