The Chubut or White-headed Steamer-Duck, only found along a narrow strip of the Chubut Province, Argentina, coastline. I photographed them in the distance with a digital zoom, but the photograph still gives a good feeling of life in the surf. Along with penguins and the flightless cormorant, the three species of steamer-ducks are the only flightless waterbirds and firmly committed to life in water.
Not a great picture but this bird is not very easy to see! They are usually hidden in the reeds. I was fortunate enough to see two of them, and I had to take a picture just for the records!!
This species is quite localized and it also took me quite a while to get the picture... it came every time to the same fruit but just for a split second! Interestingly, it was sucking from a little hole it made into the peel!
This species is not very easy to photograph because usually they run away very quickly. They are hunted in Patagonia and this might be the reason for their lack of confidence!
