Seen from a birding cruise, this is about as close as we got. These are wild cranes, they will be migrating to Northern Alberta soon.

This owl has been visiting the South Coast since Dec 15 and has been the subject of two Vancouver Sun articles. it was easy to find as there about 30 people parked on the side of the road photographing it.

Only female seen, no sign of males. i'd been told that Painted Buntings had all migrated north by that time, so I felt lucky to see this one. I did not know what I was shootung until I downloaded the photos to my laptop that evening.
