Coucals are hard to see and there are several similar species. The coppery-tailed coucal is large and has a coppery sheen that is visible only in good light. This one was nice enough to stick around for long enough!

We observed very large numbers of this species in the Okavango delta, despite it being reported as uncommon. The shape of the bill is optimized for catching fish.

Not a great picture but this is an iconic sandgrouse, mostly sought after in the Kalahari. We saw many of them there, but some at the Okavango delta, too!

Probably the most common sandgrouse in Botswana. Sandgrouse visit waterholes and rivers in the early morning and have special spongy feathers that retain water, that they will then deliver to the chicks that stayed in the more arid habitat.
