To my great surprise, after wandering off the trail I stumbled upon my first Black Woodpecker. The extent and quality of the forest at the Zepplinheim Reserve is impressive. Sorry for the poor quality; this bird was very shy.

I would appreciate any insight into identifying this bird - it was seen at a mountain pass in western Switzerland. Habitat was tundra and stunted shrubs. Thanks!
