Sorry for the poor quality, but as I was biking through the regional park at Waldorf near Frankfurt I saw my first Sparrowhawk. Could not get any closer though. This is an accipiter, but not the same as the similar Sharp-shinned Hawk.

I had never seen a Roller before, and this bird flew in with a woodpecker like undulating flight. The wing pattern is also striking. See near Muscat, Oman

Did I ever get lucky today. My first Red Kite sighting, and just about missed getting a photo. The bird is distinguished from the Black Kite by more rufous plumage and a deeply forked tail. Seen flying over Frankfurt Zepplinheim forest which has both an extensive tract of old forest and also open fields..

5 White-winged Crossbills were seen feeding in the St-Lazare pinery this afternoon. This is not the easiest bird to photograph, and took me 111 photos to get one somewhat clear.
