The adult Martial Eagle is one of the largest raptors in Africa. It has a distinctive hood followed by a spotted pattern. Seen while we were climbing a mountain in the Aberdares north of Nairobi.

We could not get out of the vehicle on many occasions in Kenya due to wildlife being a threat. This was one of those times unfortunately and the only Canary we saw was quite distant. Aberdare National Park, Kenya.

Details: adult

One of the most majestic birds I've seen, this was the second African Crowned Eagle observed on our trip. Due to its preference for dense old forest, it is under serious threat due to deforestation. This species is known to take good sized monkeys as prey. This was taken at Kakamega, northwest of Nairobi.

We got very lucky to see this species on 2 occasions during the Kenya trip. The first was here in Aberdare National Park as we climbed the mountainside in a 4x4.
