adult, summer plummage, outside normal range
Cambridge - Fantastic find at a suburban retention pond where the bird was easily observed for an entire day. It was a one-day wonder but several hundred people got to see it before it left that night. The previous record in Eastern Canada was in 1990. The bird likely crossed from Russia, through Alaska into Canada and followed migrating shorebirds south.

  1. Very long day. Six hours travel each way but my late start (I only heard about it before 9:00 a.m.) meant I’d have nice late afternoon light leading into early evening. It was perfect. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I was one of the lucky few hundred. There were hundreds more that missed it. This bird in breeding plumage is unlike any other species we have.
