This bird has been very challenging to photograph, typical of Orchard Orioles I have worked with. They may appear in an exposed location but more often will be within branches under cover, singing away. They are fond of calling from evergreens, which offer excellent cover.
I’ve had the same experience. Often heavy shadows too – but the colouring comes out in this one!
