At La Fortuna, in the woods behing our unit of the Los Lagos Hotel, we saw this bird a number of times. Obviously the right season for the berries on which he was feeding.

In Monteverde, at the El Establo Hotel property, we waited for the Quetzal to appear. Following a bit of noise in the bushes at the side of the road, I got this Tanager.

Taken at the same banana plantation as the Euphonias. Recognized him immediately as an overwintering bird from up north.

Blue-hooded Euphonia.
This tiny bird wears his name well, with his sky-blue hood. I first thought I had Hummingbirds when I pointed my camera upwards. They are in the same size range. We found the flock in a little park (originally a banana plantation) across the street from the hotel, in Monteverde.

As wrens go, this one is quite large. Not afraid of people nearby. It was hanging around the trees just off the beach area.

The beaches of Sanibel Island are a great feeding spot for shorebirds. Every high tide washes up live molusks by the millions. These birds were fattening up before heading to the arctic.
