Dotterels breed in the tundra, and during their southward migration towards Northern Africa they usually stop in habitats that remind them of their breeding place. Therefore they are mostly found above the treeline in the Alps. In this particular region, no Dotterels had been seen for over 20 years, but I was lucky enough to "rediscover" them in a group of 5 adults!
