fallow field at Drummersdale House Farm, Scarisbrick, Lancashire. I was driving down a lane on what has been the family farm for over 200 years, when a whitish blur swept past the windscreen. I only had a short lens with me, so the resolution is poor on this surprising visitor.

Aughton Street, Ormskirk, Lancashire. I suppose this gull could be considered partially domesticated. One of a dozen or so that had congregated with some terns on the edge of the bi-weekly Farmers Market waiting for scraps. The weekly Thursday market has been held since 1286 A.D. when the grant was given by Edward the 1st. (and gulls have probably been there looking for a handout since then).

Sandbach Flashes, near Crewe, England.
In 1971, Mandarin Ducks were listed as a Category "C" bird in England by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, meaning there was sufficient population to be self-sufficient. Although not native, the population has grown to an estimated 7,000 ducks. While no breeding pairs were observed this spring in Sandbach, several ducks have taken up residence for the summer.
