Wolfe Island- Kingston. Despite another snow dump today, winter is getting long in the tooth. A few Snowies are still present in the Kingston area. This attractive bird sat concealed on the ground until late in the day. I got a few pictures in low light with its eyes open, always a plus.

Wolfe Island - Kingston - Despite the lateness of the hour, this old male had a hard time waking up from his nap. There are only a few birds left this week.

Kingston - Wolfe Island. This striking adult male looks right at home in a rock pile. It looks like he is back in the Arctic.

St. Rose - I was photographing this bird on a pole for about five minutes when it took off hunting. It flew close overhead and I couldn't even get it all in but that was OK. The light was perfect.

Kingston - Wolfe Island. Finally had a chance to shoot a great looking male. This was a banner day. We made a concerted effort to do a Snowy count and ended up with 47 birds. Without knowing key places to look and how to look (have to stay until after sunset) you'd come away with about 20-25 birds which is still great.

St. Rose - Went back to a favourite regional location today and was surprised to see a good number of Snowies. Most were still on the ground at a distance but a couple were closer to the road.

Kingston - Wolfe Island This bird called (a shriek) about a dozen times over a five minute period. It was not calling to me but possibly to a bird in the distance. Most of the time it was facing away as it called. It was the most I have heard any Snowy Owl call.
