In the winter, Lake Ontario hosts lots of ducks, and especially around Toronto, there are always spots that free of ice. Long-tailed Ducks approach the shores very close then!

A common winter visitor to southwestern Ontario, Slate-colored Juncos are always moving around in big flocks, and it is not always easy to get one resting for so long as to take a good picture!

Some credits for one of the most common birds in the world! Actually, as common as it might be, it is apparently strongly declining over part of its range in Europe, and the reasons for the decline are not well known!

The Coto Doñana is one of the most important wetlands of southern Europe. When we got there, though, the water was almost all gone! Summers are extremely hot in southern Spain and even in October the temperatures are above 30°C, so that by the end of the summer there is no more water in the reservoirs! But some birds still linger around, as did this Cattle Egret.

Madeira and the Canary Islands are home to the wild form of our pet canaries, the Island Canary. They are very common and widespread throughout he islands, but their song is not as varied as the domesticated form!

Berthelot's Pipit is another endemic of the Atlantic Islands (Madeira and Canary Archipelago, plus some more islands in between). It is very common in all open areas.
