The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is always a great place to visit. Most of the attention was to the watery swamp on one side of the boardwalk. Yet there was often activity behind us. This wren is a case in point.

The beaches of Sanibel Island are a great feeding spot for shorebirds. Every high tide washes up live molusks by the millions. These birds were fattening up before heading to the arctic.

This is the nest site of a White-tailed Ptarmigan, found completely by chance when we stumbled upon an adult "clucking". There is a chick in the nest. Seen at Rocky Mountain National Park.

The White-tailed Ptarmigan was extremely hard to find. We were lucky to stumble across this one that was making noise because a nest was nearby - otherwise we never would have seen it.

The double-crested Cormorants are not completely waterproof. Their feathers absorb water in order to make then heavier so they could dive deeper up to 80 feet down.
