This was an exciting find for me, even though supposedly common in the area. However, it was so close and did not feel disturbed by my presence or by the many other people walking by! He kept working its bark as if nothing were. I guess there was a lot of good stuff under it!!

Along with the amazing rutting elk, Moraine park hosted a wealth of birds in the meadows. Probably the most common were Mountain Bluebirds.

This species was very common in Rocky Mountain NP, and I even had birds get closer to me but I wasn't ready with the camera then!! I had to get away with a quite distant shot!!

This is the nest site of a White-tailed Ptarmigan, found completely by chance when we stumbled upon an adult "clucking". There is a chick in the nest. Seen at Rocky Mountain National Park.

The White-tailed Ptarmigan was extremely hard to find. We were lucky to stumble across this one that was making noise because a nest was nearby - otherwise we never would have seen it.
