Birding since the late 1980s...mid 40s birder. Being out in nature and hearing the morning chorus, seeing how birds interact with their surroundings and go about their lives provides me a greater understanding of the natural environment we live in. With bird photography, every photo is different, which makes seeing the same and different species exciting.

Our friend is back in the yard. Not sure if it's the same exact bird, or perhaps a young bird from last year - but was happy to see him return. Delta, BC

With so many flashy hummingbirds around, this species still stands out in his own way with a unique plumage. Palo Alto Eco Lodge in the Santa Marta Mountains

At the surprise of Ricardo Martinez and several others, I spotted this species (not knowing what it was). On showing the photo, the field marks are all there for Santa Marta Bush-tyrant. Unfortunately for everyone the bird immediately disappeared and no better photos could be managed - apologies for that. Cuchillo San Lorenzo, Santa Marta Mountains.

Aside from managing something in focus, about the only good thing with this photo is that it shows the somewhat unique upturned bill. This bird was located (thinking it was a woodpecker) with a loud tapping near the Eco Lodge at Cuchillo San Lorenzo
