Birding since the late 1980s...mid 40s birder. Being out in nature and hearing the morning chorus, seeing how birds interact with their surroundings and go about their lives provides me a greater understanding of the natural environment we live in. With bird photography, every photo is different, which makes seeing the same and different species exciting.

Probably the surprise of the trip. This uncommon owl was seen in the extensive Soberania National Park near Gamboa, Panama. Map details attached.

We were so lucky to be visited by a Keel-billed Toucan in good light and close range. One of the highlights of 3 spare days west of Panama City near Gamboa. Thankfully the camera was ready and the humidity wasn't fogging up the lens.

First snow of the winter season set in today, and with it came my first Snowy Owl photo of the season. A note related to this photo - whether a good or bad idea, the Montreal Airport authority has a fauna control officer who I saw while taking this photo setting a large trap. The plan is to capture the owl and I believe to relocate it farther away from the airport. My thought - the Snowy Owl is rather stationary and insignificant compared to other hazards that airplanes face such as large flocks of Canada Geese, etc.

It's been awhile since I've upload a good old friend - one of my favourites. Seen at Sainte Catherine, Quebec.

Only 5 photos of this difficult species on the site. On a dark day in a dark setting, it was challenging to get even this mediocre example. Seen at Sainte-Catherine in a stand of pines along with 2 others, and 2 Brown Creepers.

Seen at the Pakyon Region in the DPRK in 2013. Not the greatest photo but first of this type on the site.
