adult, winter plummage
Long Sault Parkway - A local birder alerted me to this bird today. He thought it was a Red-necked but it has Red Phalarope features including overall whitish appearance with gray back and bill that is thicker at the base and paler than the rest of the bill. A rare regional find. Note the lobed toes. That's why phalaropes can swim unlike other shorebirds.
