It appears to be a young male hanging around our back yard.
It is absolutely obese, feeding on the salvias. We still have our feeder up also.
Apparently the flight over the Gulf of Mexico takes 18-22 hours so he needs a lot of fat stores for the journey to his wintering grounds.
He’s a little porker for sure. I’ve never seen an overweight hummer before, only overweight shorebirds. Great shot.
