  1. It won’t show in the photo but it took me many years to get this shot and this is precisely the shot I was after. The species is very difficult to photograph well in most cases but rarely it will present in an opportune setting. I literally picked the posts that were possible to work with in this field and positioned myself accordingly. I returned four times for this particular bird and while I had a partial success on my second attempt there was heat haze so almost all the shots were too soft. Another time the sun was too harsh even though it was very early morning. This day everything clicked – even soft light, good background and a weathered aged post, angled preferred, with just a hint of moss and a lichen covering. Of course it had to sing. When I checked the camera at the time I saw the bird was tack sharp. A decades long goal had finally been accomplished.
