Because of that, several feral populations have established from escaped individuals far away from their usual range, which is primarily in Europe and Asia, reaching Northern Africa.

This is one of the most widespread Passerine species in the world, with a fascinating migration pattern that I was lucky enough to study during my PhD. The Moroccan subspecies seebohmi is sometimes considered to be a separate species. It has a black throat (not so the other subspecies). They breed in the Atlas mountains of North Africa.

This bird was particularly funny, as it would spend the cold desert nights inside the (very noisy) dining room of the hotel, usually close to some lamps to get warm! Not always humans are detrimental for birds!
