Kilmarnock - I returned to see this bird on a sunny day for a better show of colour. It sang its fluted song for a while but never moved to a more suitable low level perch. It hasn't yet given up hope that it will find a mate. Compared to its eastern cousin, this bird has brown feathering that is paler, with the yellow of the throat extending up to the beak.

Ottawa - A new bird for the region. This little guy gave me a hard time. It was first spotted while I was watching the Red Phalarope a couple of days ago. I I dashed about 10 km to a waiting throng of birders but despite a lengthy search it wasn't seen while I was there. This morning I had the bird all to myself for 90 minutes. It was still very elusive but I had a number of good shooting opportunities.

Prince Edward County - This North American rarity has been present for about 10 days. The water in a flooded field was deep enough that I only got the occasional glimpse of the strikingly coloured legs a few times. I have only seen a very few of these birds in my years of birding and this was my best result so far.

Presqu'ile Provincial Park - What a treat to see this bird. I had the one In Montreal last fall but the setting was nowhere near as good as this. I could always orient myself for the right light unlike with the other bird. The flycatcher was likely blown up by warm stormy weather that originated on the Texas coast a few days ago.

It was very cold first thing in the morning and windy after that, keeping insects low or on the ground. It always fed on the ground and seldom went to a perch so most of my shots were of it on the ground.
