Birding since the late 1980s...mid 40s birder. Being out in nature and hearing the morning chorus, seeing how birds interact with their surroundings and go about their lives provides me a greater understanding of the natural environment we live in. With bird photography, every photo is different, which makes seeing the same and different species exciting.

male, adult
Seen in Vancouver on a warm and sunny fall day. Got very lucky with the lighting, as a reflection off nearby windows lit up the bird from all sides. No flash or colour enhancement on this photo was used.

I'm not very familiar with this species, and have only seen it once before (1989, Vancouver). This bird is seen in the harbor area of Vancouver on a nice fall day.

Another photo of the unknown bird - anyone can confirm this is a Ring-necked Duck?

I'm actually not 100% sure this is a Ring-necked Duck - any help would be appreciated. The eye line extending back and downward in a curve was quite distinct. Seen at St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.

One of the challenges of fall birding: find a Ross' Goose in amongst Snow Geese while being buffeted by 50km/h winds. Finally succeeded today, and in review of the photo there were actually 3. Taken at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. This was a lifer.
