Birding since the late 1980s...mid 40s birder. Being out in nature and hearing the morning chorus, seeing how birds interact with their surroundings and go about their lives provides me a greater understanding of the natural environment we live in. With bird photography, every photo is different, which makes seeing the same and different species exciting.

While out in the field near Saint Clet, Quebec, much to our surprise a Merlin came up and landed right beside us on a small post. This was only minutes after seeing a Harrier in the same location.

Shortly after spotting a Merlin, this Snowy Owl glided over and may have attempted to take the prey of the Merlin which was down on the ground in the field. Seen near Saint Clet, Quebec.

I'm fairly sure this is a Cooper's Hawk but please feel free to discuss all field marks. From the observations we made today, it was near Crow-sized (perhaps 1-2cm smaller), had fine streaking, and a fairly large head.
