Alfred Bog - Two pairs were feeding and doing courtship calls. It was great to observe these large birds. They all had varying amounts of dried mud on their feathers which they toss on themselves in the spring, making it look like a plumage change.

It was a rare opportunity to watch them at ease with nothing to disturb them.

Like being out there now.
I sat in my car for over an hour with them in the background, feeding and calling. Sandhill calls can travel several kilometres so when you are closer and they do their trumpeting it is a great experience.
