Thanks to Lou for correcting me that this was a Red-tailed Hawk and not a Swainson's dark phase. City of Rocks Reserve, Idaho.

What I believe to be an adult calurus version of the Red-tailed Hawk. It took me awhile to identify using the updated National Geographic, as the older versions don't have a good depiction. We also don't get this type out east. If wrong, please correct the id. Seen at Victoria Airport, Canada.

As part of the Christmas Bird Count 2015, we had a record number of raptors which was great news. This was one of 6 Red-tailed Hawks, along with 2 Rough-legged Hawks, 1 Red-shouldered Hawk and 1 Kestrel at Dorval. We think we under-counted the number of raptors but erred on the cautious side.

There were 2 birds soaring together today at the airport very close to each other. THis one was slightly darker with a bib-like white patch - however again I think it's a Red-tailed Hawk as in the previous image. Montreal, Quebec, Canada

A rather thin Red-tailed Hawk sitting at the northeast end of Mirabel Airport this afternoon. Hope this one can bulk up and make it through the winter.
