On our first day in Costa Rica we stayed in San Jose, the sparrows were around the pool area. Also the first bird to be photographed there.

Again from Monte Verde, if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would have said a nice stuffed toy. In this pose more of his long tail is visible and the hint of blue in some parts.

Onthe grounds of the hotel El Establo in Monteverde there was a particular tree on top of a long hill where the Quetzal could be seen. This was in the rain forest and under the canopy gloom, focusing was difficult for the camera. Note that in direct sun the bird at times appeared to be blue rather than green. Doesn't look real !

During a walk in the undeveloped area of Punta Leona, I spotted this woodpecker. I shot from quite far at 400mm, just to get something.
As I tried to approach for better shots, she flew off.

On our first afternoon at Punta Leona, the Macaw's showed up on the nut trees, right on the beach. Lots of people around. It was after 6pm with low light. In later days we could never get this close.

A boat ride up & down the Tarcoles river in Parque Nacional Carara, provided this view. We went to its outlet and back to the shallowest navigable part. This one was in the reeds on the shore.

A 2nd shot from Punta Leona of this Cuckoo. It is his tail underside that is so catchy to the eye, as he flashes into and out of view.

Last day in Punta Leona near Jaco, waiting for transport, heard a bird call across the street in a large tree, went to investigate. Spotted him, but I didn't get many clear shots. He kept screening behind foliage. Marveled at his extra long tail.
