BrianMorin: While this is an expected migrant, at times in small to medium-sized flocks here, getting to see it at close range is always appreciated. It was so close (there is virtually no crop on the image) that taking the shots was very difficult because it was in constant motion.

Kemptville - There was a small flock in a recently tilled field. The birds were mainly further out and with terrible heat shimmer shooting was impossible. A couple of hours passed and they moved close enough that the shimmer was less of an issue.

Brian Morin: These birds dislike open areas but once in a while one will poke around at the edge of the cattails. I could hear two calling about 5 metres away and eventually this one came into the open briefly.

Prince Edward County (Gull Shoal) - We found two birds on a rocky shoal four km offshore. Pelicans breed in southwestern Lake Erie but a few birds wander before and after the breeding season. This summer individuals have been popping up across Ontario in the south, central and east, usually seen as flybys.

Brian Morin: The Boreal Owl was high on my list for this winter. The shot window was very narrow because of branches, only about a metre, so a few of us were crowded together for a short time. Three were up and three were down in the snow. My knees took a beating. :)
