Sarsfield (Ottawa) - Up to four birds were present for a few days – I saw two. They are rarely spotted in migration in the region.

Brian Morin: At close range the bird can easily be seen but a little further away and not moving, it becomes invisible thanks to perfectly matched plumage.

Ottawa - This 'juvie' is putting its best foot forward as it probes for dinner. We are in that interim period in the annual cycle, the shorebird season, which bridges summer and fall. This is one of the most interesting and challenging periods of birding and is for me more fun and satisfying than dealing with those 'confusing fall warblers'. This is especially true for photographers because more often than not if you strategize you don't need to chase them, they will come to you.

Hillman Marsh - an uncommon spring visitor. This individual of the western subspecies is in pale breeding plumage. One day the two Willet subspecies may be split into full species.

Strathroy - this Prairie species successfully hatched 4 chicks. Hopefully they will fledge in a couple of weeks.

Brian Morin: Stunning is right. This bird tops the shorebird list. It was about 8m away. It came in from 75 m out as soon as it saw me because it had four chicks running around on a mud bar.

Details: male

Algonquin Park - Numerous Red Crossbills present but few White-winged this year. Normally we can expect pictures from ground level looking to tree tops but from the elevated visitor centre deck I was almost at the height of the trees.
