Red-necked Phalaropes are quite common in Iceland. Around the end of July they all gather to a couple of ponds in the West where they molt, before embarking on the migration that will take them as far as the Pacific coast of Peru!

Arctic Terns are very numerous in Iceland, and sometimes their colonies are right by the road. Luckily they have signs that advise to slow down for the good of the birds, especially the chicks!

A nice Dunlin in breeding plumage. The nice thing in Iceland in summer is that there is light for 24 hours, even though in part of the "night" it gets a little darker. This picture was taken very late in the evening!

Murres (or Guillemots as they are called in Europe) breed in mixed species colonies in Iceland. This picture shows a nice mix with both the spectacled and plain morph of the Common Murre, and two Thick-billed Murres.

Golden Plovers are relatively common in Iceland and they breed in the tundra!

Early July resounds of the noise of the snipe's display flights. they make this noise with their tail feathers (similar to the Wilson's snipes).

For some reason it hadn't occurred to me that I was looking at a new lifer and also a new species for Birdviewing. I only realized after returning home this was not a Semipalmated Plover!

What I believe is a Meadow Pipit, but please feel free to correct or comment. Seen at Vik, Iceland.
