Cornwall - I had another encounter with a Fox Sparrow locally. This large, attractive species is a treat to observe.

Cobourg- There was a bit of slushy ice in the low waves on the shore of Lake Ontario. The birds would swim in close to shore then swim back out again.

Mississauga - While this species is viewed every winter in the area with a few individuals, it is still a rarity in the province and is considered a species at risk in Eastern Canada. Females are usually observed more than males in southern Ontario.

Bainsville - In the spring these large shorebirds normally fly to the Arctic without stopping in most of Eastern Canada. This rare encounter brought one down into a muddy field for several days. I've only seen a bird in breeding plumage once before. Normally we only see the occasional bird in the fall when they are pale gray.

Wolfe Island Kingston – It was a good winter for this species on the island. Earlier in the year I had many but while there were only 4-5 remaining on this day, I was very pleased with the result. The nice thing about shorties is that they usually become active before dark, in this case 2 hours ahead, so getting acceptable photos in available light is possible.

Alfred - This shot fell into my lap. I stopped at a spot looking for a perch that a Bobolink might land on. I grabbed my camera to test the settings on the bush and as I raised it there was the bird I was hoping to find.
