Something a bit different...an upload from my iPhone. Last year we had a Black-capped Chickadee family. I’ve never seen their nest so decided to check out the old nest. A stunning masterpiece for such a small creature with no hands. Some moss, dry grass, and in the centre right, finer material. Not sure if they will want to reuse this birdhouse.

Ottawa - This bird has been present likely since December and will soon return to the boreal forest. I have seen it off and on throughout the winter but made a special trip to say goodbye. I spent some time observing it hunting, capturing a few shots.

Crysler - I spent hours today trying to find the right individuals. It was tough (these are very difficult birds to work with) but I finally located an adult male that typifies what a Horned Lark looks like.

Winchester - Our first spring migrants. This is the Prairie subspecies – white above the eye rather than yellow for the northern subspecies.

Val-d'Or – We failed to find any the first day but got really lucky the next. This is a popular species for hunters and since regional hunters have to travel hundreds of km north in normal years, this year they are taking advantage of it close to home. That means birds close to the road are prime targets so they are slowly declining within 75 km of some towns.
