Birding since the late 1980s...mid 40s birder. Being out in nature and hearing the morning chorus, seeing how birds interact with their surroundings and go about their lives provides me a greater understanding of the natural environment we live in. With bird photography, every photo is different, which makes seeing the same and different species exciting.

Apologies in advance for the poor quality. However I thought it would be worthwhile uploading Birdviewing's first Short-tailed Hawk photo. This was undoubtedly the bird sighting of the trip - an unexpected light phase soaring high overhead of the Grassy Waters Reserve near Tequesta, Florida. Note the distinguishing field mark of the pointed wings and dark hood.

Please feel fee to correct me on the ID, as always. I was out of my element down in Florida, and dealing with a 3rd winter Lesser-Black-backed Gull which is not a bird I've seen very often.

I always find it interesting when uploading a photo of a bird to see the photo counter. For example I didn't realize there are 30 photos of Sandhill Cranes on Birdviewing! Here's #31, a bird that was not shy.
