Arctic Terns are very numerous in Iceland, and sometimes their colonies are right by the road. Luckily they have signs that advise to slow down for the good of the birds, especially the chicks!

This is a quite common and very big (and colorful) pigeon found throughout in Africa!

This Egyptian Plover was very confident and approached us while feeding without feeling distressed by our presence! These birds are very colorful and are also called the Crocodile Watchers since they are often found together with crocodiles!

We found this nest right by the trail! Most of the other Eagle-Owl nests that we found were quite inaccessible.. not so this one!

While most vultures in Africa are getting rare and confined mostly to nature reserves, Hooded Vultures are doing quite fine. Here one was observed on its nest. Interestingly, these huge nests are used by other species for breeding, too (such as e.g. parakeets or sparrows)!

Pied Crows are the most common crow in Africa and are found almost throughout the continent (except for the North).

This goes so far back in time to when I did not take so many pictures... that is unfortunate since the Pantanal has so much to offer! We had only three days to spend there but it was just amazing!

Bluethroats are stunning birds but they are not always easy to see. They usually inhabit marshes and I was very lucky to see this one on a rocky riverbed. It was on migration. Males have an amazing blue throat that they mostly lose in the winter!
