Wallcreepers are the most sought-after birds in the Alps. Their colors are very special and their butterfly-like flight is also very particular. They are not uncommon and are found also attending man-made structures such as dams! They spend the summer high up in the mountains but in the winter they can be found at much lower altitudes.

Bohemian Waxwings get to Southern Europe only in invasion years. In my region in Switzerland they are usually found on persimmon trees, which carry their fruit in the winter (in this photo, though, they are on a different tree since it was later in the season, no more persimmons on the trees).

Dippers are very special birds because they are the only ones that are able to walk at the bottom of streams! To achieve that they have heavier bones that allow them to stay underwater!

These birds are not very easy to see. They have a cryptic plumage and they only get flushed from a few steps away. This one stayed in the same position for at least 25 minutes, and did not move even when a dog approached it up to a couple meters!

European warblers are very tough to identify. The Chiffchaff gets its name from its song that goes "chiff chiff chaff" repeatedly and is heard very often. This is also the best way to identify this species!

In addition to being very cute, Blue Tits are also very curious! They often approach and give alarm calls to scare you off!

This bird was probably migrating and decided to take a rest right in the grounds of the institute where I was working!
