Birding since the late 1980s...mid 40s birder. Being out in nature and hearing the morning chorus, seeing how birds interact with their surroundings and go about their lives provides me a greater understanding of the natural environment we live in. With bird photography, every photo is different, which makes seeing the same and different species exciting.

Seen at Masai Mara, Kenya. It was a new experience seeing a wild bird like this one, something that looks very historic. Glad they have been given the sanctuary to thrive in.

This Bateleur Eagle surprised everyone as it swooped in low and directly over us. Nearly pulled my back trying to focus. It wasn't possible to get out of the truck due to the animals nearby. Masai Mara, Kenya.

It was late in the day, but still nearly every species we encountered was new, including this Ring-necked Dove. Most birds we saw needed to be identified later at night in order not to miss any field time. Taken from the roof lookout of a 4x4 Toyota at Masai Mara, Kenya.

Another species seen only once and for a few seconds. Masai Mara, Kenya. Named for the arrow-shaped feathers on the throat.

These warblers are just as difficult to spot, identify and photograph as some of the skulkers we have in North America. Seen at Masai Mara, Kenya.

I had a lot of difficulty getting some species photographed in Kenya, as the thick underbrush made lighting and focusing difficult. Yet another bird seen only once, this was at Masai Mara.
