The Henslow's Sparrow that we saw this morning was a lifer. This bird is in a dramatic decline throughout its range, and even some areas where it was regularly seen in Michigan have no birds this year. Urgent attention is needed regarding preservation of natural grassland areas and increased awareness of the habitat requirements of this species.

I almost walked into a flock of six while looking for ducks and loons out in the ocean. They are very tolerant of people.

Apologies in advance for the poor quality. However I thought it would be worthwhile uploading Birdviewing's first Short-tailed Hawk photo. This was undoubtedly the bird sighting of the trip - an unexpected light phase soaring high overhead of the Grassy Waters Reserve near Tequesta, Florida. Note the distinguishing field mark of the pointed wings and dark hood.

Please feel fee to correct me on the ID, as always. I was out of my element down in Florida, and dealing with a 3rd winter Lesser-Black-backed Gull which is not a bird I've seen very often.

I always find it interesting when uploading a photo of a bird to see the photo counter. For example I didn't realize there are 30 photos of Sandhill Cranes on Birdviewing! Here's #31, a bird that was not shy.
